Opera Mobile 8.65

If I recall correctly, a version of Opera Mobile comes preinstalled on the Nokia 6682, but it is not the latest version. Opera Mobile 8.65 was released on Septemeber 1, 2006, and is a FREE download for owners of the Nokia 6682 (others will have to pay $29). So if you haven’t upgraded yet, do so now!

For those not convinced yet, new features in Opera Mobile 8.65 include:

  • Improved start page that makes it easier to enter a Web address and go directly to your most frequently visited Web pages.
  • More intuitive text entering into form fields on Web pages. Simply start typing as soon as the form field has the focus, with no need to click first.
  • The behaviour of shortcut keys has been changed to avoid confusion when users accidentally press the wrong key. By default, Opera Mobile 8.65 has a two-key version of shortcut keys, where you press # + key. If you are a shortcut keys fan, you can still go back to one-key mode in settings.
  • More content on the screen: With 8.65 the size of the user interface has been reduced to make more room for the Web page content. Naturally, you can still select Full Screen mode.
  • Advanced users will enjoy the “pencil key” + joystick to go Page left/right/up/down in desktop mode, or customizing the keyboard to have these as shortcut keys. Zoom in/Zoom out is now also available as shortcut keys.

Is it possible to get the free version by just installing it on my 6682, or does it have to already be on the phone?

I believe during the process they ask you what phone you own, so even if Opera is not currently installed on your Nokia 6682, it should still be a free download for you.
